About Springfield, OH

Springfield, Ohio

Springfield, OH near Beau Townsend Ford Lincoln in Vandalia, OH

Our dealership attracts customers from all sorts of cities and areas surrounding Vandalia, OH. One of these cities happens to be Springfield, OH. With a population of around 60,000, this city was founded by a former teamster from Kentucky by the name of James Demint in 1801 and was designated as county seat in 1818, beating out the village of New Boston by two votes in the state legislature. The National Road is to thank for the early growth of Springfield, before finally becoming stuck in political limbo for about 10 years as politicians tried to decide if the road should turn south or continue west. Eventually, President Andrew Jackson commanded the road be continued west to Richmond, Indiana. Springfield was finally incorporated as a city on March 21, 1850.

While visiting Springfield, drop by the Westcott House, a two-story home built by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This house, which was fully restored in October 2005 and is available for guided tours, is the only Prairie Style house Wright built in all of Ohio. If you happen to be in downtown Springfield on a Saturday during the summer, be sure to swing by the Farmer's Market nestled between the Heritage Center and Elderly United and check out all the local musicians and the wares, which include local produce, baked goods and jams, flowers, handcrafts, and more. Outdoorsy types will love Buck Creek State Park; C.J. Brown Dam and Reservoir; the Ohio Caverns; and Snyder Park, home of the Madonna of the Trail Monument. The area is also a great place to visit if you are a cyclist: Among the available bike trails are the Buck Creek Scenic Trail, Little Miami Scenic Trail, and the Simon Kenton Trail. Meanwhile, the slightly more cultured visitors can take off to Brandeberry Winery and enjoy wine, food, live music, and other fun events. Finally, be sure to also visit Springfield's South Fountain Avenue Historic District, which was chosen by This Old House as one of their 2011 Best Old House Neighborhoods in the Midwest category. Other notable tourist attractions include the Springfield Museum of Art, Heritage Center of Clark County, The Old Pennsylvania House, Hartman's Rock Garden, Young's Dairy, Crabill Homestead, Hertzler House, the Clark State Performing Arts Center, the Summer Arts Festival, CultureFest, and the Springfield Civic Theatre.
