Tipp City, OH, near Beau Townsend Ford Lincoln in Vandalia, OH

Beau Townsend Ford Lincoln in Vandalia, OH, attracts customers from throughout western Ohio, including Tipp City, originally named in honor of William Henry Harrison, a local war hero and former Ohio senator and congressman who would later become the ninth President of the United States.
Due north of Vandalia, Troy has a total area of 6.2 square miles and a population of slightly less than 10,000 residents, according to the 2010 U.S. Census, and is considered part of the Dayton metro area. The city was founded in 1840 as Tippecanoe City, its name derived from the "o;Tippecanoe nickname Harrison earned for his heroism at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811, which was part of Tecumseh's War and would serve as a catalyst to the War of 1812. At the time of the city's founding, Harrison was the Whig candidate in the upcoming presidential election, which he won that November. Harrison was sworn in as president the following March, but died in office one month later, making his the shortest term of any American president.

The name of Tippecanoe City would survive for almost 100 years, until it was shortened in 1938 to Tipp City. The United States Postal Service began abbreviating the city name in the 1930s because it was too easily confused with that of Tippecanoe, an unincorporated community in eastern Ohio 200 miles away. There is some sentiment among local residents and businesses for a return to the city's original name, but any change seems unlikely in the near future. However, the city's high school still bears the name Tippecanoe High School.
